Honda has not made hybrid cars shorter than Toyota, but Hong Kong licensed products have always resisted the introduction. The last hybrid Honda tried was the CR-Z more than ten years ago. In 2021, with the arrival of the fifth-generation Jazz, the agent finally joined the Hybrid version. What's interesting is that most of the time it is a series hybrid, similar to Nissan's e-Power, but it can use the engine to directly provide power in some cases. Long Sir is most concerned about the conditions under which this Engine Drive Mode can be triggered? If it is easy to do, it may be very suitable for Hong Kong road conditions.

    • 長B檔是ok的,但要仔細地控制油門,以免收油太急頓挫,同時,收得太早要重加油反而更耗油。

    • Hybrid的電池容量不大,加上電池的電力來自引擎,著引擎是很正常的,最重要是引擎以高效率運作,不會以怠速、低速的低效率工作。

    • I find this Hybrid Jazz has no Blind Spot Monitoring function. Have tried using the ACC several times but the steering is a bit "late" to my driving preference. ACC Braking and acceleration are a bit abrupt to me when the front car has changed lane or another car has cut in. The ACC (one of the Honda Sensing function) is more suitable for touring on a freeway. Alerts on hand-hold on steering wheel during ACC are frequent. (I can now confirm the driver must control the steering wheel when using ACC for this car. It can be a confusion of ACC steering the car when Lane Keeping has been monitored.

  • Although it may not be as good as the new Mazda cars, this hybrid Jazz has mitigation on understeering control by taping on the front brake slightly and automatically. It feels comfortable when going into a curve for daily driving.

  • In this day and age Honda and Toyota are still producing Hybrid that are slow as a snail. When Tesla keep on producing cars that are low to no carbon emission and have tons of horse power. That's why so many buy Tesla over Hybrid. They missed the mark to produce performance hybrid that's why every country using the environment issue to get rig of ICE and Hybrid cars. Not only they are not efficient in comparison to EV as well they are so boring to drive.

    • 低速著車率視乎道路交通節奏,很難一概而論,混能車的電池容量只有1至2kwh,不可能長期不著引擎的,它的引擎發動時感覺還好,不算突兀。

  • 龍sir可唔可以開一集教Auto Hold點用。有媒體話Auto Hold嘅時候自動波唔需要入N檔,掛在D檔就可以,我就怕咁樣做會導致波箱和腳brake有損耗。龍sir請指點一下正確方法。

    • @Chong Jiun Kit Just leant that Auto Brake Hold would automatically hold the brake pressure that you have just applied. This may explain why your car need to give the brakes up to certain degree of pressure to activate the Auto Brake Hold. If the brake pressure under Auto Brake Hold is not sufficient to hold the car, ABS will kick in to increase the brake pressure. I also leant that Auto-Hold can only be activated if you’re inside the vehicle with the doors closed and seatbelt fastened (I've yet verify that).

    • @Chong Jiun Kit Very correct. Zero speed detection by itself won't work. Brake padel must be depressed till zero speed have been detected. I guess there may be a timer control of a second after zero speed too. Nevertheless, I don't find a need of depressing the brake padel deeper to trigger the brake hold. ,龍Sir hsd shared that auto brake hold is managed by ABS. To avoid overheating (may be the ABS system), it is better turn off the auto brake hold during traffic jam.

    • @S C I have experimented on my car Mazda 3 2021 and confirmed with car manual. Zero speed itself won’t trigger Auto Hold. I have to depress the brake pedal a little deeper until the “Hold” indicator lights up in dashboard display. The question is whether I should leave the gear in D mode or N mode when Auto Hold is active. 龍sir already answered.

    • 短暫停車用D,稍為停久一點應該用N,跟有沒有auto hold並不相關。Auto hold的工作是由ABS系統負責的,遇上嚴重塞車,建議不要長開auto hold否則系統有機會過熱。

    • The Auto Hold function will be activated after the Auto Hold button has been depressed and after the Auto Hold Ready message is shown on driver's VDU. The function will be maintained until the driver has cancelled it or after the car has been switched off. Once zero speed has been detected, the Auto Hold will kick in disregard the position of the gear selected. It is not necessary to step on the brake pedal during a traffic stop because the car won't creep forward. The rear brake lights will still be illuminated under Auto Hold. When the gas pedal is depressed, the Auto Hold will be released automatically and the car will move out naturally even on up gradient. If Auto Hold has not be activated, this car will creep forward in "D", "B" or backward in "R" as per an usual AT gear box. Somebody may like to switch off the Auto Hold function to allow the car to creep without depressing the gas pedal during parking.

    • You may like to switch the driver interface to POWER FLOW to watch the working of the engine animation (video 4:33) for driving the alternator only or on direct drive to the front wheels. Depress the HOME button once (a house icon) from the right hand side of the steering wheel and then turn the selection wheel to choose POWER FLOW display (depress the selection wheel to select a chosen display). I feel the engine is a bit noisy (in high RPM) inside a covered carpark when it is in charging mode. Nevertheless, one won't feel it when on the road due to background noise.

    • 其實兩邊都唔似。應該咁講,e-power 係直接用引擎嚟發電,引擎唔會推個碌。而Toyota 主流嗰套hybrid就係比較傳統,引擎配以電動摩打作動力輸出。而康打呢套動力系統個人嚟睇比較有誠意,引擎主要用作發電而電動摩打作主力動力輸出。電腦會根據道路不停嘅狀況或者駕駛者嘅駕駛態度做出唔同嘅駕駛模式。好似龍sir話齋,喺架車負荷低嗰陣時,引擎就會直接推動頭轆作動力輸出來打字最有效率既動力輸出。所以三間日本廠套hybrid都不盡相同,各有各好。

    • My Hybrid Jazz 4th gen in Singapore has Honda Sensing which includes Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist System. The combustion engine trims in Singapore do not come with Honda Sensing. I believe the Hong Kong Hybrid version should be the same as per the Singapore batch. In UK, several hybrid trims are available (no combustion engine version on sale) and hence UK Hybrid Jazz 4th gen cars are not necessary equipped with Honda Sensing.

    • @Lik Chen I use "B" whenever coming down from multi-story carparks. However, I find the braking power of the electromagnetic brake is quite limited unlike the lower gear radio of MT and AT. The "B" of this Hybrid is more for re-charging the battery more proactively in my opinion. There are air channeling from the front air grill to the front brake disc. The braking power of this hybrid Jazz comes from the hydraulic braking system mostly.

    • @S C I think that they are using B in the city. Then it may be good to use.

    • I prefer not using "B" while on the highway because "B" will reduce the coasting effect. Otherwise, "B" is great on hilly areas and consecutive curves. Also, one may like to note that the electro-magnetic bake has no brake light that can cause impact to the judgement of the driver behind you.

    • 若負荷無大變化,直驅模式啟動後速度再上還是會用直驅。
